Heb 4:8-10 ( For if Jesus has given them rest, then would he not afterwards have spoken of another day. There remains therefore a rest to the people of God. (For he that is entered into his rest also had ceased from his own works as God did from his.)
There is a rest which God prepared for His people from the foundation of the world; as He rest from His on the seventh day of creation, so also He is preparing rest for His children who believe and follow till the end.
Christians are on a spiritual journey to their father’s bosom, we started this with the hope of reaching the heart of God and lost inside of Him; many pilgrims were diverted by mundane things and couldn’t reach their destination, rising and falling Christian that don’t take the race seriously more than their life are subjective to the antics of the devil and will miss their time of visitation; but those who endure till the end shall be saved.
Children of Israel started the journey from the land of slavery to the promise land, not all who started together reached the end of the journey, out of over six hundred thousand that left Egypt, only two of them entered their rest in the promise land, they later possessed their possessions.
There is a rest prepared for the people of God, it’s our faith in Him that is the key to entering; those who lost their own on the way by listening to the lies of satan won’t reach the end not to talk of entering.
If there is an iota of unbelief in us, it will destroy all that we have prepared for before we embark on the journey.
The word of God preached isn’t mixed with faith in some people’s lives; they heard it but didn’t act on it, and it becomes a clog in their wheel of progress on the way to their journey end.
Faith is not only to believe but to act according to the written and spoken word of God; this is our labour in his vineyard that’ll push us into the rest that was prepared for the saints who are able to endure till the end.
The rest comes after our justification, which will eventually lead to glorification that’ll lead to our inheritance in God: “It”s who he did predestinate, whom he also called, and whom he called, he also justified, and he who justified he also glorified.”.
Whatever God promised shall come to fulfillment if we are diligent in obeying His word and following all His ordnances; that’ll lead to successful living on earth.
Jesus Christ says, “Whoever forsakes earthly things for his sake will receive a hundredfold return in this world and also in the world to come.”.
Which means our rewards are not only in heaven; we will also have our rewards on earth if we are faithful to the end.
It’s not in the mind of God for His people to die poor or wretched; poverty is a mark of the curse of Adam. That is why unbelievers who want to get out of it must pay obeisance to the powers of darkness, but in exchange for their souls; but as believers, there are things we must do to break free from it forever, so it won’t extend to the next generation.
The bible says, “those who endure till the end shall be saved”; this salvation is not necessary for the soul alone; it also extended to the body and the spirit.
We must be free from every consequence of sin and from the curse of Adam when we’re still living if we are truly saved.
When the LORD says, “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth,” He means what He says; it’s our faith that’s weak to comprehend it and take it along on the way.
Those who think that Christians are to die poor are not reading their Bible with the help of the Holy Spirit that gives understanding; even if we can’t be rich like the richest man on earth, we will be comfortable and not be found wanting of anything good, nor go into debt or beg before we eat.
A Christian that is still operating under the curse of Adam is yet to enter his rest and free from earthly care and labor; wherever this is manifesting indicates that there is still work that needs to be done in our nature.
All these take the grace of God to achieve; we need to pray that God should multiply His grace that’ll lead us to this rest in Him.
We act in unbelief towards His word when we pick what is convenient for us to follow and abandon what the flesh can’t condone.
Israel acted in unbelief since God gave them the law; they molded golden calves for themselves to replace His presence; they continued tempting Him by not listening to His commandments, saying what will He do?
God also didn’t hesitate to destroy all of them in the wilderness and spared only two that followed Him till the end.
Constant disobedience to his law is equal to tempting Him; what will He do even if I do what he forbids me not to do?
It’s a child that doesn’t respect his father that will constantly disobey his father and still claim with pride that “it doesn’t matter.”.
If those kinds of people died with curses when they are yet to be justified, who will they blame?
Apostle Paul is warning Christians in every generation not to tempt God so that they will be able to enter the rest that was provided for them from the foundation of the world.
Most Christians are not moving forward spiritually, and it extends to every area of their lives; they’re just moving in a circle, thinking they’re making progress. God won’t hesitate to remove them from the face of the earth, to stop bringing disgrace to His name as they refused to grow.
They might be forgiven if they ask for His mercy, but they’ll surely miss their rest on earth by refusing to exercise dominion over sin that takes them captives and died without accomplishing what they came to the earth to do.
A believer that adds a little dose of worldliness to his faith cannot experience rest but must be expecting God’s wrath that shall be released upon every disobedience. God demands perfection.
