Mark 8:36,37 For what shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?)
These two questions were asked by Jesus Christ; the first one is, What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul in the end? The second one was like it, which says, What can you give in exchange for your soul?. Even though you misused it in the beginning or you lost it to the camp of the enemy, what can you give in exchange to retrieve it before you die?
It’s in this life you can give up things to secure the soul; everything that’s causing distraction between us and God must be removed out of the way for our soul to thrive in the things of God.
Jesus teaches us to deny ourselves of things that can cause injuries to the souls; he told the ruler of the synagogue to sell all his property to secure his soul with God; after death, nothing is worthy enough to retrieve it.
The soul of man is the most precious thing in the sight of God; He created it in His image and wants it to become His likeness. Man lost it the day they listened to the voice of the serpent and abandoned the commandments of God.
God sacrificed His only begotten Son to retrieve it from the hand of Satan, but if one loses it again, what is the price to pay to recover it in hell?
Since man has trampled on the precious blood of God’s son to lose the soul, nothing in the world can remove it from the eternal punishment prepared for every disobedient child.
Satan is also after man’s souls; it’s precious to him to the extent that his only desire is to make God sad if he is able to destroy it.
Since he was chased out of heaven, he can’t get to God but is looking for the things God loves most to disable it.
The soul of man is also precious to man himself; your soul is your real you; it’s what will stand before God to account for what was done in the flesh.
Your soul is your will, emotion, and imagination with your thoughts; it’s the control centre of your life; your body only obeys the dictation of your soul.
Our body was created to have contact with the physical; it perishes when its time expires, but our soul lives forever. What will be the destination of your soul if you don’t surrender it to the will of the owner?
It’s unfortunate that many care for their body more than their souls; if the way we care for our soul is the way we take care of our businesses, we would have gone bankrupt.
Or the way we care for the souls is how we handled our marriages; most of us would have divorced.
The most foolish men even substitute souls that live forever for the enjoyment of their bodies that will soon perish.
While some entered into a covenant with darkness to exchange their souls with things that don’t have eternal values, just because they don’t know the value of their souls or their worth.
The day you know the worth of your soul is the day you surrender it to the owner to keep.
Jesus is asking us, What are our profits if we can gain the whole world and lose our soul?
We should also ask ourselves: What is my gain if my name is being honoured everywhere, or if I sit in the highest position in society; if I’m well known all over the world and my name entered the Guinness book of records, but my name is deleted from the Book of Life?
This is what many Christians are running after now that makes them forget their saviour and the price He paid to recover their souls; suppose their name is not encrypted into the magazine of the world; they will struggle to put it in their religious magazine, but how many of us are aspiring to have our names written in the book of life? We forget that it’s only the names that are inside that book that will sit on the table to dine with Him in the marriage supper of the lamb.
Most opted for riches and forgot their souls in the camp of their enemy. When the time comes, the devil will demand their souls as his property so he can use them to accuse them before the throne of judgement.
Anyone who can’t care for his soul is not worthy enough to care for the welfare of his congregation; it’s the soul that is kept under the watch of the almighty that can be used to care for others, and it will be far away from Satan’s reach.
We care for the body, forgetting the needs of our souls. We gave the body all the necessary things that’ll make it glow but forgot to give the souls what will make it flourish in the things of the kingdom.
What we refused to give the souls now will be his wanting after life; if we don’t give it adequate foods and nourishments from the table of the almighty, it will become it’s hunger that can’t be quenched after life.
Those who refuse to lead their souls to the fountain of living water will regret it when unquenchable thirst invades them in hell; they will seek for water but will not find it.
Lack of rest in God that was denied to the souls will later accumulate to restless life in eternity.
Our soul is much more important in our daily lives. God wants to take care of all; as he is caring for the soul, he wants to take care of the body as well, as we surrendered it to Him as a living sacrifice by daily renewal in His word.
You can’t claim that your soul is for God, but your body is dancing away in the camp of your enemy; the position of your body is the indicator of where your soul belongs.
