1 Cor 12:10 ( To another the working of miracles, to another prophecy; to another the the discernment of spirits; to another divers of tongues: to another the interpretation of tongues)
In the kingdom of God, we have different gifts for the edification of the church and for the growth of the body of Christ, to enable us to reach the maturity of the stature of Christ.
The closer we are to God, the more of His spirit and His gifts he endowed on us to operate fully in the anointing of His spirit.
It’s because men are no longer interested in the word of God; that is why the operation of the gifts is limited, and it’s affecting our relationship with others in the kingdom.
Reasons We Need The Gift of Discerning of Spirits As Christians
- Without the gift of discernment of spirits, there are manifestations we will mistakenly believe to be the move of God, whereas, it’s from the opposite side.
- We need the discernment of spirits to be able to recognize it, it’s because we no longer listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit. That’s why the devil is infiltrating the gathering of the saints to penetrate as an angel of light to deceive.
- It can be easy to detect witchcraft operations in the church, but discernment of spirits is needed to differentiate look alike among the people of God, like a slogan that says, if its not Panadol, it can be Panadol. Operation of familiar spirits is increasing in this generation, there are serpents operating in human form to deceive the new converts in the church, who are yet to experience the move of God to the fullest.
Satan has counterfeited many gifts, it’ll be very difficult to separate fake from original without discernment.
The only thing he can’t counterfeit is the fruit of the spirit, their righteousness depends on their works, not on the righteousness of God.
There is no agent of darkness hiding among the saints that doesn’t have a mission to fulfill in the church of God, whatever they do is to accomplish the work of their master, to steal, kill, and destroy.
The Mind of God About Discernment of Spirits
Almost the same can never be the same. When the Pharisees saw Jesus Christ, they raged because they knew His purpose that He will expose their lies which they had been using to deceive their followers.
They displayed their hatred for Him by bruising his heel, which He in turn bruised their heads by His death on the cross. The cross that was supposed to be instruments of destruction now becomes the instruments that destroy the works of darkness and become a hiding place for all who come to God through Christ.
Before the time of Jesus Christ, men looked unto Pharisees as holy people, they made them their example to follow in the things of God, not knowing that their pretence is devouring the widow’s house and exploiting the fatherless.
God gave us discernment to identify them in our midst and expose them, so that Christians won’t become their victims.
Tares has mixed together with the wheat, but their fruits are different, tares can’t bring forth edibles, and their fruit is poisonous to the soul.

Samuel mistaken Eliab to be anointed of God, because of his outward appearance, not knowing that God has rejected him: man look outwardly, but God looks inward.
COnsequences of The Lack of Discernment of Spirits As Christians
- It’s lack of discernment that makes anything go along in the house of God, we ordained wolves to shepherd the sheep, not knowing that their mission is to scatter and not to gather.
- It’s our lack of discernment that gives snakes and scorpions the opportunity to occupy the pulpits, preaching to the children of the kingdom the mind of their master (the devil). How will they grow in such situations, when all they’re being fed is poison instead of bread, which will retard their spiritual development.
- It’s because we lack discernment that we accept truth mixed with lies from the sermon of the serpent on the altar, taking poison with little water won’t reduce the potency of the poison; but those ignorant of the truth will accept it because it sounds alike.
The purpose of Jesus saying that, will He meet faith on the earth at His second coming?
It’s because of the multiplication of wolves that shepherds the sheep out of the faith to bring them gradually to the lies of the devil.
Look alike is what makes people fail and Satan was able to penetrate the midst of the brethren, for we don’t have seeing eyes or listening ears, that’ll make us detect false from the real.
To be able to discern is to be sure you aren’t going for fake in the market square of life, a ministry that is accepted by all, and praised by unbelievers and believers alike is not originating for Holy Spirit; Jesus Christ says, “Whatever is highly esteemed before man is an abomination in God’s sight”.
